What Lies Beneath

What Lies Beneath builds on Through Our Eyes, our first mother-daughter collaboration. Together, we revisited five phases of our relationship and discovered how differently many of the same moments had been experienced.
A suspended installation of layered translucent panels, acrylic pours and thread traces the evolution of our relationship, while companion works ground it in the people, places and memories that shaped us.
Rather than seeking a single interpretation of the past, the exhibition reflects on how understanding changes through time, distance and reflection.
If this is intended as the main gallery statement, I think this tighter version is actually stronger. It leaves more room for viewers to bring their own experiences to the work.
The Shape of Letting Go
September 17 to November 1, 2026

The Shape of Letting Go reflects on the grief that emerged when my daughter left home and the perspective that followed. Layers suspended in space suggest the passage of time and the gradual easing of heartache, while a continuous thread suggests an enduring bond. The work considers what it means to love a child enough to let them live their own life and to recognize that connection can remain even when we let go.
